My Artistic Journey
As an artist, I am deeply inspired by the natural world that surrounds me. It has been my greatest source of creative energy and spiritual fulfillment throughout my life. However, as I delve into my past, I realize that my artwork is a composite of my many experiences and the people who have influenced me along the way.
From a young age, I was always a creative soul, bursting with artistic energy and encouraged by my family, teachers, and friends. My mother recognized my talent before I did, and her enthusiasm and support were invaluable in nurturing my passion for art. Growing up in rural Alberta, I was immersed in the beauty of the Canadian landscape, which would later greatly influence my paintings.
My childhood years in England introduced me to the study of watercolors, a medium I still cherish today. Throughout my school years, I was supported and encouraged, and my enthusiasm for art continued to grow. Upon returning to Alberta, Canada, I worked as a drafting technologist for the Provincial Government by day while attending night courses. The meticulous work and attention to detail required in this field have stayed with me, and I continue to strive for perfection and realism in my artwork.
My journey as a graphic designer for the City of Edmonton further fueled my creativity, with projects that gained worldwide exposure, such as designing the city's phone book cover and corporate Christmas cards. During this time, I also advanced my painting career, often working late into the night to balance my job and my passion.
The decision to move to Vancouver Island and pursue my dream of earning a living solely from my watercolors was a turning point in my life. Though the path was not always easy, I remained determined and positive, rising above the challenges to become a respected and renowned artist.
