This photo from 1957 shows the retrieval expedition of
 the base of frontal pole no. 9. The top of the pole which originally had a carved eagle perched on the top was missing at this time- perhaps it had returned to the earth - as was the natural order of things. The base can now be viewed in the Museum of Anthropology, UBC

This frontal pole, believed to be the part of the mortuary house of Chief Ninstints was depicted in Judi Wild's  lithographed print entitled  "Monument of the Past"

Judi's entire collection of 7 lithographed prints have recently been acquired by the National Archives of Canada.
